Rural Poverty and Maoist Insurgency

This is the subject I always keep very dear to my heart as I grew up & educated in the Naxal affected/influenced Villages/ Towns in Nizamabad Dist.and graduated in Agriculture Engineering(APAU/ANGRAU) and Rural Management (IRMA - http://www.irma.ac.in/ ).
Here are my reflections and analysis of the Business Week Article :
"In India, Death to Global Business" http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/08_20/b4084044908374.htm?ch

Human life is NOT all about more Roads, more Steel, more Electric Power, more Sales for Corporations, more growth of Sensex, more GDP, more Per Captia Income, etc. But it is about more PEACE & HAPPINESS!

In 60 yrs of Independent India, 750 million people'slife didn't improve much. Whatever prosperity happened is happened to 350 million only! Still NO hard-feelings!! Just a small complain and A BIG HOPE/DREAM for better FUTURE for the reaming 750 million too!!!

Who benefited from last 60 yrs of mining in these Tribal/Forest regions/states?

Who gave the permits & signed MOUs with these Indian &Foreign Mining Corporate Companies?

Did Parliament, Assembly, Zilla Parishad, Panchayat, etc. were consulted/intimated and any discussion happen on permits, MOUs, etc. to chart out a best course of action in a democratic spirit?

IAS officers behave as WHITE MEN of British India anddecide & sell everything that's public without even consulting the Public Representatives and Constitutional Bodies/Institutions (for IAS officers, these institution & public representatives are like UNTOUCHABLES!)

Maoist central command is headed by well educated and they got support of some urban intelligentsia. Hence you can't write them off. Better listen to them, negotiate with them, and peacefully coexist.

Unfortunately, New Delhi & States still treat the insurgency/Maoists largely as a law-and-order problem. They should see this problem as a socio-economic &cultural one and seek the help of Constitutional Institutes like Institute of Conflict Management(Idon't know much about this institute) and adopting awin-win approach to find solutions.Lately, Planning Commission recognized the "CollectiveFailure" (of all Five-Year Plans may be!) of Socialand Economic Policies of 60 yrs of Independent India!

" We need a suitable social and economic environmentto meet "this" national challenge" says Essar Steel Chief Jatinder Mehra. For Jatindra Mehra, national challenge is only doubling the Steel production. But for Sridhar Reddy, national challenge is PEACE –at home, at work, at school, at hospital, at the placeof worship, on the street, and in the village/town/city/state/country.

For PEACE, we (Govt. & Pvt.) need to see that fruits of economic growth and new opportunities are equitably distributed among all the people of a particularplace/region/state – NO exploitation and undue benefits to few (especially to outsiders &foreigners)!

Lets us plan for a better Telangana State, where Human Life lives in Peace, Happiness, and Dignity!

PS: CBN didn't do anything special for HYD. Global Market Forces and hard working & technology-educated middle class people have turned HYD into a Tech Center.

Jai Telangana! Jai Telangana Bathuku Baata!!

Thanks & Best Reagrds,
Sridhar Reddy P
