Micro-Irrigation and Telangana Agriculture

MICRO-IRRIGATION SYSTEM (MIS) is the future for Telangana Agriculture. Important Micro-Irrigation Systems are Drip Irrigation Systems and Sprinkler Systems. Other than aforementioned systems, there numerous other Micro-Irrigations Systems used in Precision & Controlled-Atmosphere Agriculture.

In a semi-arid environment like Telangana, where summer temparatures touch 50 degree centigrade, we have to go for Controlled-Atmosphere Agriculture soon to continuously supply fresh & presihable farm produce, like Vegetables, Fruits, and Flowers to ever-growing Hyderabad City. Moreover summer is the Celebration & Ceremonies time with majority percentage of Function and Weddings happening. These Weddings and Functions require huge quantities of fresh & presihable like Vegetables, Fruits, and Flowers.

Micro Irrigation Systems (MIS)- are REMEDY for a big PROBLEM, lack of sufficient water to irrigate moderately good to best soils year round inspite of having moderate ground-water resources. As every REMEDY, MIS also has some SIDE-EFFECTS, high CAPEX, continuous electricity supply, knowledge of the technology & products, maintenance, etc. We shouldn't focus on SIDE-EFFECTS only and ignore the big PROBLEM & popular REMEDY. SIDE-EFFECTS should be MANAGED!

Except paddy(rice), you can grow ALL CROPS under MIS. Even you can grow paddy(rice) under new cultivationmethod - SRI cultivation (System of RiceIntensification)- under MIS.

MIS are not off-the-shelf products that fits-all. They are engineering solutions and cost vary from solution to solution, depending on the material, technique, management, crop(s), soil type, topographyof the farm, affordability of the farmers, etc. Hence, Govt. should not involve in directly in micro(farm-level) planning & implementation because it isnot a major/minor irrigation project. Choice of solution should be left to the FARMER.

MIS are not very complicated technology - can be simplified. Low-cost SOLUTIONS can be found (material, techniques, engineering, etc.). Regarding HIGH COST of MIS, IN APMIP, few big companies have their own problems with technology(b'cos of collaboration of Israeli & American technologies - picking off-the-shelf technologies) and govt.(bribing officials & politicians to get sell the systems in WHOLESALE). Hence, the high cost! We should encourage local manufacturers & suppliers, who can adapt the technology & develop low-cost products

This is a small attempt from my side to give you some insights into this very important topic - MICRO IRRIGATION SYSTEMS! Hope this helps the readers to think & work on this important subject, which can save the livelihoods of millions of rural folk and rejuvenate the Telangana Agriculture!

Are we in right constructive path towards Telangana ?

One of my fellow Telangana forum member, Srinath asked:

are we in right constructive path towards Telangana ?

and

How much we as a individual or non-profit & non political organizations or as political parties have suceeded or laid a succesful path towards Telangana ?

I say:

Yes, we are on the path to Telangana State. But we may not be on a Contrcuctive path to build a better Telangana for the welfare & security of the people.

While fighting/demanding for separate state, we as individuals (or) not-for-profit & non-political organizations should not forget tounderstand the local problems & issues, articulate them to the local leaders/public representatives and govt. administrators, and try to find the solutions on regular basis. We, Telanganites are very much part of the Indian Union. Hence, we should try to collaborate with the Cental & State Govt. organizations in our own capacity to provide better services to people in the field of Education, Health, Livelihoods, etc.

We should not shun government programs & schemes saying that CM is a non-telangana (or) anti-telangana. We should not forget that in implementing govt. programs & schemes and running govt. admistrative organizations, there are thousands of people (officials & public representatives, majority of them are our own Telanganites) between C.M and a common man (benificier). Even after setting up Telangana State Govt. (at least in short-term), we will be working with same admistrative set up and same officials & public representatives except our own Telangana CM & Council of Ministers.

Hence, we, individuals (or) not-for-profit & non-political organizations should understand the local problems & issues and work in collaboration with govt. administration & organizations to find solutions.

To be frank in India, Government is ill-equipped and under-staffed to provide welfare & security services to all people in current scenario - growing population & urbanization, fast-growing economy, new commercial & residential establishments, fast-changing lifestyles, etc. Hence, we, individuals (or) not-for-profit & non-political organizations should chip in and take up responsibility in collaboration with the Govt. administration & organizations. Telangana is no exception to all the above said symptoms & scenarios.

Telangana State formation is a political process and we will succeed soon. We, as region/state can not take the approach of Gujjars (or) something like that and create the scenes (ఎలకల/పందికొక్కుల బాధకి ఇల్లు తగల బెట్టుకున్నట్లు!). Till Telangana State forms and even after also, we individuals (or)not-for-profit & non-political organizations should work with Govt. administratives (panchayat secretary, MRO, MDO, Collector, diff. department offcials at Mandal, Zilla, & state secretariat) & public representatives (ward-members, sarpanches, MPTCs, ZPTCs, MLAs, MPs, etc.).

Indo-US Agriculture Agreement follows the Nuclear Deal

Indo-US Agriculture Agreement's main purpose is to bring in the New Agriculture Technologies - seed, crop production, and produce & food processing technologies, better Agri-business management practices, and more domestic & foreign investments to revitalize the crisis-ridden Indian Agriculture and to bring rural industrialization. An Agro-Climatic Region (similar to Southern California in USA) like Telangana is going to benefit a lot from Indo-US Agriculture Agreement.

No secret that few big multi-national companies (Wal-mart, Monsanto, etc.) are directly involved in the agreement from US side. Also Dr.Mangala Rai, Director General of ICAR (Indian Council of Agriculture Research) and Shri.Sharad Powar, Agriculture Minister and President of ICAR are involved from Indian side along with other team members from different sectors/sections related to Agriculture.

Also there is no doubt that this agreement is going to help MNCs as much as it helps Indian farmers & agriculture. No agreement (or) negotiation is going to be one-sided, generally they will be win-win types. As doctors say, there is no medicine in the world without side effects. In the same way, we will have to face some challenges in the process of implementing Indo-US Agriculture Agreement. In some sense, Nuclear Deal was a pre-requisite for Indo-US Agriculture Agreement to generate enough power to support the new agriculture technologies, which are no doubt energy consuming!

I am very much aware that there will be a similar opposition for this Indo-US Agriculture Agreement as happened in case of Nuclear Deal. To be frank due to various reasons, especially due to inefficient/inferior Seed Technologies, Irrigation Technologies, Crop Management Techniques, Post-harvest & Food Technologies, and Marketing & Retail Management Practices, our agriculture growth got stagnant and almost reached a dead-end. Some farmers (mostly medium-scale farmers with 5-10 acres growing commercial crops) are committing suicides due to year-after-year losses & with unbearable debts and others are unable to see themselves 5-10 yrs down the line into agriculture and stopped any further investments.

I can go on writing on this subject, which I keep very close to my heart and in which I got educated and worked. But I stop here to know comments and opinions from the readers of this blog on this very important agreement, which is going to bring a very positive change in the lives of our rural folks & farmers.

This is just an heads-up for you all. It's also an earnest attempt from my side to pitch a Pro Indo-US Agriculture Agreement point of view.

Nuclear Deal - Telangana Agriculture

Just imagine yourself as A FARMER in a Telangana village having a cultivable land, a bore well(s) with decent enough water to irrigate, family labour (or) afford to hire labour, got enough money (or) loan to buy seeds, prepare land for planting/sowing seeds, buy fertilizers, etc. and confident that you can make decent enough profit, if you get at least an average harvest.

You might be wondering, then what's the problem and why are you (the FARMER) not getting any income out of the all above mentioned resources & capabilities of your own?

Problem is not with you (the FARMER) or your land or your bore well or your labour! PROBLEM is with ELECTRICITY - NOT GETTING SUFFICIENT ELECTRIC POWER SUPPLY TO PUMP WATER FROM THE BORE WELL to irrigate the crop/land to get a good harvest. Isn't it something equal to denial of your right to livelihood? Isn't it the incapability of your government to provide you with a basic need - Electricity?

The only problem you (or) our imaginary Farmer, for that matter most of our Telangana farmers, got is with INSUFFICIENT ELECTRICITY SUPPLY!

In present/modern agriculture electricity is a very very important resource, especially in Agro-Climatic Zones like Telangana!!

Hence, We need Nuclear Fuel/Energy to produce enough Electricity to meet the demand of our Agriculture & Farming Community besides supplying to MNC companies. Otherwise, we will be seeing more farmers committing suicides, abandoning agriculture, and deserting the villages.

Why are the political parties stopping the government to build its electric power generation capabilities? It's unfortunate that our responsible political parties in India are involving in IRRESPONSIBLE acts like opposing the Nuclear Deal in toto. It's like playing dirty politics wasting a golden opportunity to revive/protect a major livelihood source (Agriculture) of Rural India. Opposition Political Parties are ignorant of lakhs of farmer suicides (or) trying to turn a blind-eye on Agriculture & Farming Electricity needs, which can only be met through adoption of Nuclear Technology & Nuclear Fuel.

Let us pray & hope for the best for India and Telangana Farming Community!

TRS alliance partner for 2009 general election?

KCR predicts and I believe to a large extent that there may be a non-Congress & non-BJP government in centre after 2009 elections. Small/Regional Party Coalition (give whatever name you want - third front, UNPA, left-front, united front, etc) might form the 2009 government, Mayawathi ji might be a future PM, BJP might give a outside support if required as they did to Shri.V.P.Singh's National Front Govt.

Hence, it is in best interests of TRS & Telangana to keep a distance from BJP until 2009 elections, If possible with Congress too.

Even if TRS, NTPP, TRS(N), etc. form an alliance, together they can not match to the type of CADRE and ORGANIZATIONAL STRENGTH (in terms of resources & management) Congress Party and TDP possess and face the most expensive election ever(to be) contested in A.P/Telangana. It's politically pragmatic & wise thinking to join hands with Congress Party (or) TDP to achieve our Goal - Separate Telangana State! We should not under-estimate our opponents' strength. Instead, If possible tactfully leverage their strength to achieve our goal. Enemy's enemy is our friend - it's 200%true in Politics.

TRS should not form alliance with BJP before 2009 elections. Instead TRS has to build strategies to create a compulsive political environment (tactfully using weeknesses in Congress & TDP, their need to stay/get in power in State & Centre, etc.) for Congress Party and TDP to beg for alliance and garner considerable MLA & MP seats in 2009 elections. Then play a decisive role in the prospective coalition governments in the State & Centre and untimately achieve the Separate Telangana State, which is a political process and has to pass through State Assembly and Central Parliament. We have no option but to work with parties like Congress and TDP in the State and all other parties in Centre

Dear Friends, one thing we sould not forget is about 50 % of our fellow Telangana voters/people are with Congress Party & TDP and we are not in War with anybody. We are seeking/demanding a Separate Telangana State to have a self-rule of our own within the Indian Union. TRS need to work with Congress Party (or) TDP to get want we want - Separate Telangana State! Hence, it's better to form alliance with TDP if it agrees to the formation of Telangana State and announce the same in the party and public.

I earnestly welcome your comments and suggestions for the betterment of Telangana lives, livelihood, and LEADERSHIP!

BJP - TRS and A.P/Telangana Politics

Unfortunately, there is NO space for BJP, a national party, in A.P/Telangana Politics. And all parties, big (or) small, Pro-Telangana (or) Anti-Telangana, are keeping a big distance from BJP. I think, in recently concluded by-elections, they (all parties) strategically killed & demoralized the party by defeating BJP in Musheerabad inspite of its commitment to Telangana.

For example, If I take my native district, Nizamabad, where BJP had some good presence before 1999 elections, most of the BJP cadre/supporters and local leaders joined with Shri.A.Narendra and TRS party. Now Shri.Devender Goud and Shri. Chiranjeevi will chip in before 2009 elections. CPI & CPM are also garnering public support in some pockets of Nizamabad, like old-city in HYD.

Fortunately or Unfortunately in A.P/Telangana, You CAN'T ask votes on Hindu Religion (or) Hinduthva. Now Caste factor dominates A.P/Telangana Parties & Politics. Hence, it is in the best interests of TRS not to form alliance with BJP/NDA before 2009 elections. After election, If required, TRS can have a strategic partnership with BJP/NDA.

To be realistic, TRS can't be a big force (win 30+ MLA & 5+ MP seats) without an alliance with big parties - TDP or CONGRESS!. And DON'T expect a miracle - uniting all Telangana Parties to form a Political Front, We are not yet that matured in Politics. Our Telangana Parties are still new-borns/Infants/Toddlers in Political environment. They need more time than we got (few months to go for 2009 general elections) to mature. TRS can not build the Congress (or) TDP type cadre & leaders at Grass-root level in few months, before 2009 general elections.

Hence, TRS has to do their homework - build strategy, create political compulsions, pouch Big Party leaders/cadre, etc. - to form an alliance with TDP (or) Congress with a WIN-WIN approach for 2009 general elections.

Where are the Farmer Leaders?

There is no LEADER or ORGANIZATION or LOBBY GROUP worth his/it's salt in Telangana/A.P for Farmers & Agriculture. Because farmers are DIVIDED! and they don't belong to a particular caste, job profile, etc. and they got misled most of the times.

Unfortunately, These days leaders emerge on Caste Basis only! But not on basis of Livelihoods, Economy, and People's issues. We no more see Farmer Leaders, Labour Leaders, Trade Leaders, Beedi-Industry (or) X-Industry Leaders, etc. These days, We only see B.C leaders, S.C leaders, Minority Leaders, Kaapu (or) X-Caste Leaders, etc. Our present leaders are NOT specialized on any subject/livelihood/people's issue. Instead they are specialized in 'Political maths & Number Game', 'Factionism/groupism', 'Commission Mgmt', 'Contract Biddings & Ring Formations', etc.

One of my agri-business friends from Maharastra state told once and I quote "Farmers in A.P seams to be more interested in politics & political factions than farming". Our farmers don't come together to form organization & lobby groups, they don't evaluate technology, new practices, etc. They blindly follow politicians & their parties.

Even some parties & intellectual groups (who claim to be pro-poor)just use farmers, farming issues, farmer suicides, etc for their dirty POLITICS & individual fame. They don't LIVE with farmers and don't let them live on their own! Just they want to thrive on them - Poor & poverty! No body is feeling responsible when it comes to agriculture, even the farmer! We do less Agriculture and more Politics (irresponsible
politics)!!

Let us hope for better leaders, leadership, and bright future for our TELANGANA AGRICULTURE!

Remember Teams Win!
Jai Telangana! Jai Jai Telangana!!

Separate Telangana (or) Praja Telangana?

What you want, Separate Telangana (or) Praja Telangana ?

As most of you, I also answer, "I want both - Separate Telangana and Praja Telangana". But will get an immediate question in my mind, which one got the priority? (or) Can I get both at the same time? How related these two issue are?

Briefly, here I try to answer the above questions:

As per our revered CONSTITUTION, India is a people's state ruled by people/people's representatives. same applies to TELANGANA region too. But unfortunately, we are not living/ruiling (getting ruled) with constitutional spirit. We definately need a TRUE People's/Praja Telangana, which is a political evolution process that will take it own time, may be many years/decades in the Republic of India.

As per our CONSTITUTION, Telangana is NOT a separate state in Indian Union. But fortunately, Separate Telangana State formation is under consideration within the Constitutional framework in Republic of India and every political party is talking about it.

Hence, the SEPARATE TELANGANA is a Priority NO.1!

Kindly bear the teacher in me and please read the analogy,

Our Telangana Situation is like India Cricket Team playing a Semi-Final ODI game, Saurav Ganguly (96 not out) facing the last ball of the game. India needs one run to win & to get to play the final at Eden Garden and Ganguly needs 4 runs to get this first ODI hundred at his home ground, Eden Gardens, in front of 90,000 adoring fans(I am one among them :)!).

Should Gunguly plan for a Single or Boundry?

Obviously, He should plan for a Single Run and make his team win rather than risking his team's final chances for a personal achievement.

Once his team is in Final, Gunguly gets one more chance to make a ODI hundred too!

HENCE OUR PRIORITY IS TO GET UNITED AND ACHIEVE SEPARATE TELANGANA STATE. Once we get our own state, WE CAN TRY TO MAKE IT A TRUE PRAJA TELANGANA!

Remember Teams Win!

PS: I solicit your comments & learned thoughts on this subject.
